Clear Channel Entertainment TV and fountain mobile partner to create an interactive first during the Times Square 2005 New Year’s Eve festivities

USING FOUNTAIN MOBILE’S TEXT-TO-VOTE TECHNOLOGY, TIMES SQUARE REVELERS VOTED TO HEAR THEIR FAVORITE SONGS

NEW YORK, NY (January 3, 2005) – Through a collaboration between Clear Channel Entertainment Television (CCETV), a division of Clear Channel Entertainment, Countdown Entertainment and Fountain Mobile, revelers at the 2005 Times Square New Year’s Eve Celebration were able to vote for their favorite songs by participating in Text-To-Vote. For the first time, the Times Square New Year’s Eve event became interactive when audience members at the celebration were able to use their cell phones to vote for their favorite songs in four different categories throughout the night.

Fountain Mobile provided the Text-to-Vote technology support, allowing real-time voting technology and instant vote tabulations. Between 6pm and 9pm, the stage show announcer introduced the category and the three song nominees. The audience had approximately 30 minutes to text in their top choices. The DJ announced the winning song and played the selections after the voting polls closed. Voters paid $0.99 per entry, charged to their mobile phone bills. The audience’s winning choices were: Oklahoma (Broadway category); I’ll Be There for You (Friends for TV Show category); Whenever, Wherever (Shakira - Today’s Sounds category); and Lola (Kinks - Girls vs. Boys category).

“Through a unique media rights deal with Countdown Entertainment which puts up the event in Times Square, we wanted to try something new for the hundreds of thousands of people who arrive to ring in the New Year. Lead time was only weeks and Fountain was able to react and get it in place. Text-to-Vote was a great opportunity to give the live audience an added dimension of entertainment.” says Steve Sterling, Senior VP of Clear Channel Entertainment TV.

Fountain Mobile’s data applications connect with major US wireless carriers, allowing everyone to join in the fun and vote for their favorite songs. Fountain Mobile was able to design, plan and launch the program in less than six weeks.

“Text-to-Vote was a fun and energizing program that created great excitement among the Times Square crowd,” adds Peter Tilles, Managing Director of Fountain Mobile. “Instead of picking a winning song by the loudest cheers or applauses, Text-to-Vote provides an accurate, yet still timely result.”
